100 Word Challenge – Week 53.2: For Honor and Glory

With a snap of his fingers, it had been done, and the nation of Belka forever scarred. One by one, the lights of nuclear fires sprung up from their cities. Seven dots on the map, twelve thousand citizens, had burned.

Was it enough, or would seven prove to be too much? The border of his country was redrawn in the ashes of its people. Certainly, it halted the advance of their enemies, even taking half of the accursed Galm team down.  Was the honor and sanctity of their homeland not worth that much and more?

“Rest well my children. May you know glory once more in Heaven.”

And entry #2 for this week’s 100-Word-Challenge from Julia’s Place (which I will figure out how to link back to one of these days, I promise!). This one stems from one of my favorite video games of all time; Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. We all know war has its price, but one wonders if any of these people even saw their fate coming.

I hope you all enjoy!

Wow, that’s pretty horrifying, when I stopped to think about it: the Belkan leader sacrificing that much. They say there are “acceptable losses” in any conflict, but stories like this make me wonder.

Nice – if cold – calculating language, especially in that first paragraph.

How do you always manage two entries for these? 🙂

  2. That’s horrific. A great use of the prompt and well written x

  3. A very intense description … but .. war is intense.
    Well done …!!!!

  4. Horrific. But very well written. I just realised you do two entries – from reading the other comments – that’s so impressive! I just about manage one… I enjoyed both entries but this one stayed with me more. I’m following your blog now and look forward to reading more from you!

    • Thank you very much! Honestly, I have trouble some weeks limiting myself to two entries. My brain likes to run off with them sometimes.
Always happy to have another follower as well. Looking forward to seeing more of your work here and for Free Write Friday!

  5. […] An entry for a Free Write Friday challenge all the way back from the beginning of February. And a prequel for an older bit I did called “For Honor and Glory”. […]
