100 Word Challenge – Week 62.2: Meeting Time

He stood alone in the conference room. Captain Lohnes never liked these meetings.  The Klingons were loud and brash, the Romulans sly and ever-perceptive.  But this audience was never predictable.

“Captain, the official party has arrived in system,” his crewman informed.

It can’t be that time already, can it?” he lamented quietly, before responding “Understood. Do they have an ETA?”

The shudder of the plating under his boots answered that for him, as the U.S.S. Endeavour was cast under the shadow of a gleaming angel of death.

“Sir, we are being hailed by the Star Destroyer Emperor’s Breath.”

“I noticed, Bridge. Welcome our guests,… carefully.”

And entry #2 for the 100-Word Challenge from Julia’s Place. Also part of a much larger universe that exists in many of my earlier notebooks and imaginations. Because being a nerd has it’s perks.

I hope you all enjoy!

    Universe mash-up! 😀
I like the description of the plating under his boots. That bit is very evocative. You’re getting quite good at those quick but potent descriptions. Well done!

    Emperor’s Breath – lol.
It’s a good description of a moment in time, not a story, but we can feel for the poor captain…

Great example of fan fiction, you capture the feeling of the series in so few words. I love the tension and how simply the name of the arriving ship gives weight to it. The last line – “carefully” os the icing on the cake. I’m left with anticipation, wondering who or what will be coming through the door.

    He hopes he’s packin’…Mintos. 😉
