100 Word Challenge – Week 63.2: Healing Winter

Snow crunched under weighted boots as he searched the darkness for a shadow from the urban night that had vanished into the rafters and wreckage.

“You cannot hide forever, detective. I know you are still here.”

“And you don’t have to do this Fries! Trying to freeze Gotham won’t help Nora!”

“But that is where you are wrong. The cold saves her life, even now when a cure has no hope. And winter will bring a lasting hope for her. No one else concerns me, Batman. Not even you. Return the serum!”

Suddenly, the hidden figure leapt into view, causing Victor to turn and fire.

And entry#2 for this week’s 100 Word Challenge from Julia’s Place. And this one was quite challenging indeed, considering the subject material, and how much respect I personally have for the character (especially the animated series incarnation) and most of the franchise.

I’m afraid I don’t know batman. I like the idea of winter bringing lasting hope.

I found the first sentence a little hard to interpret. Maybe two sentences would be easier to read?

  2. Sally says:

The prompt suits the dark Batman image and Gotham city and you’ve left us hanging as to the outcome and wanting more.

The Freeze/Batman conflict is always an interesting one, mostly because the motives are so righteous while the methods are questionable. Nice job capturing the villain’s stance. I could definitely hear Freeze talking, here. (The Animated Series remains the finest interpretation of the mythos, for me.)
